The Literacy Council

Bay Aging

This request was for funding to complete a fence at a new elderly care facility on Fiddler’s Green Road.  The fence will allow outdoor socialization for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients.  This project has great community support including $5000 in labor from Abingdon Ruritan Group and a $1000 Board pledge.

The Family Room

The Gloucester Public schools, Full Service Schools Program

This program assists teachers and school staff in assisting children and families in need of outside services within our county.  Specifically focusing on Petsworth and Bethel Elementary Schools, the program provides “child centered, family focused, community based services to high risk youth and their families“.  The purpose of the program is to prevent families from reaching a point of crisis.

The Cook Foundation / Art Camp

Middle Peninsula Land Trust

This organization seeks to preserve the quality of rural life by helping land owners in difficult positions enter their lands in The Virginia Open Spaces Land Act and work with the Land Preservation Tax Credit rather than feel pressured to sell their lands into development.
